1 Day Kabaka’s trail tour, Kabaka’s Trail Tour is a cultural and historical tour in Uganda. Which highlights the history, culture, and traditions of the Buganda Kingdom. Buganda is a traditional kingdom located in present Uganda. East Africa and founded in the 14th century and one of the five traditional kingdoms of Uganda. The kingdom’s capital is located in Kampala, which is also the capital city of Uganda. The Buganda kingdom has a rich cultural heritage and traditions. That are deeply ingrained in the people’s way of life.

The Buganda people, who make up the majority of the kingdom’s population. Have a unique language, dance, music, and dress that are distinct from other ethnic groups in Uganda. Today, the kingdom continues to be an important cultural and political institution in Uganda. And the Kabaka of Buganda remains a respected figure in the country.

This one day Kabaka’s trail tour named after the Kabaka, which is the title given to the King in the Buganda Kingdom. The tour takes visitors to various cultural sites around Kampala and other parts of central Uganda. That are significant to the Buganda people.  Visitors also have the opportunity to participate in traditional activities such as drumming and dancing. And to learn about Buganda Kingdom’s history, customs, and beliefs. The Kabaka’s Trail Tour provides visitors with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and history of the Baganda people. Detailed itinerary

Pick up and transfer to Lubiri Palace.

Have early morning breakfast  picked up by our driver guide who will brief you about the details of the trip. You drive to Lubiri Palace to start off the day’s activities.

Lubiri Palace is a historic royal palace which was the main residence of the Kabakas (kings) of Buganda. Before it was destroyed in a fire in 1966. The palace was originally built in 1882 by Kabaka Mutesa I, the 35th Kabaka of Buganda. And rebuilt and expanded by his successor, Kabaka Daudi Chwa II.

The centre of political and cultural life in Buganda and also served as the residence of the Kabaka and his family, as well as the location for official state functions and Kabaka ceremonies. It also housed the offices of the kingdom’s administration, including the prime minister, treasurer, and other officials.

During the colonial period, the palace was used by the British as the centre of their administration in the region, and was the site of several important events in Uganda’s history for example. It was at Lubiri Palace that the Buganda Agreement of 1900 was signed, which established the relationship between Buganda and the British colonial government.

After Uganda gained independence in 1962, the palace was restored and continued to serve as the residence of the Kabaka of Buganda until 1966. When it was destroyed in a fire that was reportedly set by the military during the coup that brought Milton Obote to power.

Since then, the palace has been rebuilt and restored, although it is no longer used as a royal residence. Instead, it serves as a historic site and museum. Showcasing the rich history and culture of the Buganda kingdom. The palace is also an important symbol of Buganda’s struggle for independence and self-determination. And continues to hold great cultural and historical significance for the people of Uganda.

 

 

Transfer to Bulange Building

The Bulange Building is the headquarters of the Buganda Kingdom. The building serves as the seat of the Lukiiko. Which is the Buganda Parliament, and is also an important cultural and historical site in the region. A tour of the Bulange Building is a great way to learn about the rich history and culture of the Buganda Kingdom, and to gain a deeper understanding of Uganda’s complex political and social landscape.

It is important to dress appropriately when visiting the Bulange Building. Men should wear long pants and a shirt, while women should wear skirts or dresses that cover their knees and a blouse. Avoid wearing shorts, sleeveless tops, or revealing clothing.  Allowed to take photos during the tour, but it is important to ask your guide for permission before taking any photos inside the building.

During the tour, you will get to see the main hall of the Lukiiko, the offices of the kingdom’s administration, and the Buganda King’s throne room. You will also learn about the history and culture of the Buganda Kingdom, including its traditional governance system and its role in Uganda’s struggle for independence.

 

Transfer to Kabaka’s Lake.

Kabaka’s Lake a man-made lake built during the reign of Kabaka Mwanga II in the late 19th century as a recreational facility for the king and his guests.  A tour of Kabaka’s Lake typically starts with a visit to the lake’s shore, where visitors can take in the scenic views of the water and the surrounding hills. You can also see the various species of birds that inhabit the lake and its surroundings.

You will take a guided boat ride to explore the lake’s tranquil waters. The boats piloted by experienced guides who provide information about the history of the lake and its significance to the local culture. As you cruise around the lake, you will see several islands, each with its own unique history and significance. The most famous island known as Bulago Island, which was once used as a place of exile for rebellious princes during the reign of the Kabaka’s.

You will have lunch and a mini break for relaxation at Banda Island, a popular spot for picnics and camping, with several campgrounds and restaurants on the island. You can also explore the island’s lush vegetation and spot various bird species.

 

Transfer to Kasubi Tombs.

The Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The burial place of the Kings of Buganda, the largest traditional kingdom in Uganda. The tombs  considered one of the most important cultural sites in Uganda. And a tour of the tombs provides a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the Buganda people.

Inside the tombs, visitors shown around by knowledgeable guides who provide information on the history and significance of the site. The main building is a thatched-roof structure that houses the remains of four of the Buganda Kings. The tombs a sacred site for the Baganda people, and visitors required to maintain a solemn and respectful demeanour while inside.

During the tour, visitors will learn about the cultural practices and beliefs of the Buganda people, including their unique burial rituals and the significance of the tombs in their society. The tour also includes a visit to the various buildings and structures within the tombs complex, including the royal court, the royal tombs, and the traditional medicine house.
