Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On this day, you will arrive at Kigali International Airport. Then, you will drive through Kigali city (Rwanda’s capital) to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum. It is always an emotional moment to see and learn about the 1994 massacre and its effects on the country. After this visit, you will embark on a 3-hour journey to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge while waiting for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After a delicious breakfast and getting ready for the day, you will head out for golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park. It is important to note that golden monkeys are endemic to the forests of the Virunga Conservation Area, where the park lies. Also, these primates are habituated, allowing visitors a close-up encounter. After trekking, you will have lunch and start your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which requires crossing the Uganda-Rwanda border. Lastly, you will have dinner and overnight at your lodge in the Nkuringo sector.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking

Following your morning breakfast, you will drive to the Nkuringo starting point. You must be ready for jungle walks dressed in long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and with enough water and insect repellant. It is also essential to carry some energizing snacks since this is Bwindi’s most challenging sector to trek gorillas. After the briefing, you will be divided into groups consisting of 8 individuals each. You will then follow your ranger guide to track a single-habituated gorilla family.

Expect to walk for kilometres sloping and hiking into the deep impenetrable forest while searching for the gorillas. The trek can last 30 minutes to 5 hours before finding your gorilla family. After seeing the gorillas, you will have only one hour to enjoy an encounter with these precious giants. Afterwards, you will return to the starting point, get your certificate of trekking the gorillas and finally return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will visit the Batwa community, where you will enjoy watching the cultural presentations of dances and tales. Then, you will have lunch as you transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.  When you arrive at your lodge, you may check-in and relax as you wait for dinner and overnight stay there.

Day 5: Game drive and boat cruise

Early this morning, after having a cup of coffee, you will drive to the Kasenyi sector for a game drive. Undoubtedly, you will have a rewarding experience while viewing various wildlife species, including; elephants, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, buffalos, lions, warthogs, and others. Kasenyi is the mating ground for several antelopes, so expect to see many of them.

After lunch, you will drive to the Mweya Peninsular for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. This activity will indeed offer you another opportunity of watching more animals. As you enjoy the scenic views of the rolling landscapes, you will also spot several wildlife along the channel’s banks. Aquatic life like Hippos, monitor lizards, and crocodiles will make your cruise one of the most remarkable moments in the wild. Afterwards, you will drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking

On this day, you will wake up to a delicious breakfast and head to the Kyambura gorge for your chimpanzee trekking adventure. This is one of the prominent destinations for tracking chimpanzees in their natural sanctuary in Uganda. The chimpanzees here are habituated, and the chances of finding them are pretty high. Also, tracking is part of the Uganda Wildlife Park program, and a trekking permit costs $50.

After this exciting activity, you will return to your lodge for lunch and refreshments and visit a local community around Kyambura to explore the lifestyle of the local people. Then, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Kampala

Today, you will enjoy a relaxed breakfast and set off for your journey to Kampala. You will stop in Mbarara City for lunch at Igongo Cultural Center. After lunch, you will continue driving and stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for photographs. After that, you will head to Kampala, and your driver will drop you at Entebbe International Airport for your flight home.
